Message from the Chair

April 2026
The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is a practical, focused and collaborative regulatory agency. We are dedicated to protecting investors and fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta that encourages economic growth, resilience and market integrity. Alberta’s industries, and the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit that makes them grow, are key drivers fueling our capital market, which in turn plays an important role in Canada’s national economy.
Fiscal year 2027 (F2027), which began April 1, 2026, is the first year of the ASC’s new three-year strategic plan. Given the current economic environment, the ASC’s three-year strategy is more important than ever. I believe that it will guide us, and it will also enable us to be resilient.
Intelligent regulation and investor protection provide all market participants with the structure, confidence and clarity needed to move forward and help our country compete and prosper.
The ASC continues to monitor and consider fast-moving international forces to assess potential implications for our market and we remain committed to providing practical and appropriate regulatory solutions.
This regulatory work is a close collaboration with our fellow provincial and territorial securities regulators from across our vast and diverse nation, through the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA). The CSA brings us together to share ideas and design and implement policy and regulations that are consistent across jurisdictions to support the smooth operation of Canada’s securities industry. We work together to disrupt bad actors and hold them accountable in our efforts to protect investors and maintain safe and fair capital markets.
As we begin this new three-year strategic plan, I believe the ASC’s key strategic pillars of intelligent regulation, effective compliance oversight, education, disruption and enforcement, a culture of engagement, and how we embrace technology and innovation will continue to guide us into the future.
We are pleased to share with you the details of each of the strategic pillars, including a graphic representation of the key elements of our F2027-2029 Strategic Plan.
Additionally, each year we monitor and summarize our progress through our Annual Report. Our next Annual Report, which will report on the progress we made in Fiscal 2026, will be released at the end of June 2026.
With kind regards,
Stan Magidson
Chair and Chief Executive Officer
